What Is the Hotel Lobby AI Trend? Quavo, Takeoff and the Orange Booth

What the Hotel Lobby AI trend is: the Migos COLORS performance behind it, how the Quavo and Takeoff swap went viral, the 15-second routine, and how to make your own.

The Hotel Lobby AI trend is a meme where AI video tools replace Quavo and Takeoff in their 2022 COLORS performance of "Hotel Lobby" with two other people, characters or pets. The orange booth, the single hanging silver microphone and a fixed 15-second routine stay the same; only the performers change. It took off on TikTok and X in September 2026, and the two-cat version is the most viewed.

An AI-generated demo of the Hotel Lobby trend made with our generator. These are not Quavo and Takeoff, and our tool never makes them.

Where the Hotel Lobby AI trend comes from

"Hotel Lobby" is a song by Quavo and Takeoff, recorded as the duo Unc & Phew. On June 17, 2022, COLORS β€” the YouTube channel known for one-colour studio sessions β€” published their performance of it. The set is simple: an all-orange room, one microphone hanging from the ceiling, and the two rappers standing close, face to face, sharing it. That COLORS Hotel Lobby video has passed 120 million views.

So when people search "Migos Hotel Lobby", "Quavo Hotel Lobby", "Quavo Takeoff Hotel Lobby" or "Hotel Lobby Migos", they usually mean this performance. Add "AI" β€” "Migos Hotel Lobby AI", "Quavo Hotel Lobby AI" or the "Migos Hotel Lobby trend" β€” and they mean the AI remakes of it. Quavo and Takeoff were two of the three members of Migos; Takeoff died in November 2022, which is part of why some people find celebrity versions of the meme uncomfortable.

How the Hotel Lobby AI trend went viral

Date (2026)What happened
Sep 16A TikTok edit swaps in Harvey and Mike from Suits. 1.7 million views in 12 days.
Sep 18Two cats take the mic on X. 7.8 million views when we checked.
Sep 19Napoleon and Kylian MbappΓ© on X, about 5 million views.
Sep 25A Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce version on TikTok, 400,000 views in three days.
Sep 26Google searches for "hotel lobby ai" peak.

Every one of these uses the same performance timing and is posted with the original Hotel Lobby sound. That's why "migos ai", "quavo ai" and "migos hotel lobby ai video" became searches at the same time as "hotel lobby ai".

Is the trend still going?

Google searches peaked on September 26, 2026, two weeks after the first viral edit, and by early October they had settled at roughly a tenth of that peak. That is a normal curve for a meme: a short spike, then a long tail of people who see a clip, want their own version and go looking for a way to make one. New pairings keep appearing on TikTok and X, and the cat and pet versions in particular are still being shared.

The practical upshot: the format is now widely recognized, so a new version doesn't need explaining. Viewers know the booth and the moves; what makes them stop scrolling is who is performing.

Why the Hotel Lobby meme works

  1. You recognize it instantly. Orange room plus hanging mic reads as "Hotel Lobby" in half a second.
  2. The joke is the swap. Lawyers from a TV show, an emperor and a footballer, two cats: the funnier the pairing, the better it does.
  3. It's built for two. A duet is easy to tag a friend in β€” or your pet: the Hotel Lobby AI cats version is the most viewed of all.
  4. Everyone uses the same sound. Posting with the official audio puts your clip in the same feed as the original.
  5. It ends on a punchline. The last three seconds β€” a finger to the lips, then a point back β€” give every version the same payoff, so even a stranger's clip lands.

That is also why lookalikes do worse than surprises. A clip of two people who resemble the original pair asks viewers to compare; a grandparent next to a grandchild, or a dog next to a cat, asks them to laugh. Pick the pairing first and the photos second.

The 15-second routine

We watched the viral versions second by second. They all follow the same choreography:

  • 0–4 s β€” the right performer points forward while the left one nods with hands together.
  • 4–8 s β€” the camera moves in; they face each other and trade gestures.
  • 8–12 s β€” the right performer covers their face with an arm, spins around and turns back.
  • 12–15 s β€” closest shot at the mic: a "hush" finger, then they point at each other.

If a Hotel Lobby AI video doesn't have these beats, it doesn't feel like the trend, even with the right booth. More on how we found this in how we built Hotel Lobby AI.

Is it OK to use Quavo and Takeoff, or other celebrities?

Many viral clips use celebrities, but they are other people's likenesses. We don't generate Quavo, Takeoff or any public figure, and we don't use the original footage or the original song. Our generator is for you and people who agreed to it β€” friends, partners, family β€” and pets. Everyone in the photos must be 18 or older.

The format is what makes it funny anyway: a quiet grandpa and a cat standing up to rap get the same reaction as a famous pairing.
